I need to tell you guys about one of the most awesome experiences I had! Its Called SNAP! ORLANDO! The first time I heard about snap was when I was reading one of my favorite blogs by Melissa Rodwell. She had mentioned in a blog that she was going to be traveling from LA to Florida for SNAP! I was supper excited so I immediately bought my $20 ticket! The ticket along with a T-shirt came in the mail and I was set to go! SNAP! Is a 4 day event for all things photography, here is how I experienced it with my good friends Kheirra Peggs and Bobby Rexroad.
DAY 1: I got up early and started driving up to Orlando from Boca Raton. It was the longest three hour drive of my life! That night we went to down town Orlando to preview art from many photographers. There were two venues showing the art. First was at the City Arts Factory. They had very nice showrooms to display the art; very quiet and relaxing.
The other was at the Gallery at Avalon, it had a totally other vibe from the first place, it was loud, woke you up and had you ready to go out on the town. I enjoyed seeing all the different kinds of art, the variety of different artist and pieces gave us lots of things to talk about.
DAY 2: We went to the Exchange Building in down town Orlando. It was one of the most beautiful venues I have seen as far as architecture goes. A red carpet was rolled out for me to walk on. There were glasses of yummy
Wyland wine to sip on. They had this really cool Pico projector to play with too. Inside the building there were many rooms with art on display. Hung up where the works of legendary photographer Douglas Kirkland who we later met. I also met one of my favorite photographers Melissa Rodwell!
They are such awesome people and meeting them really made my year! I was so psyched! Still am!
DAY 3: Lecture day! My whole day was spent listening to some of the most talented photographers who ever lived. Melissa being one of them spoke about the Fashion Photography Biz and shared her life experiences with the crowd.
Next was Douglas Kirkland, best known for capturing images of the beautiful Marilyn Monroe in the 60s. Like I said before, he is a legend. I feel so blessed to have met him.
Last up to speak was Peter Langone who spoke about developing your photography style. Peter spends lots of time down in south Florida not far from me, so I’m used to seeing some of his beautiful work in the local magazines I have on my coffee table. It was cool to meet a local photographer from my town who has accomplished so much. I’d say this day was my favorite day for sure! I enjoyed every second of it!
DAY 4: Workshop day! Khe, Bobby and I attended Fashion Photographer, Betsy Hansen’s workshop. The workshop was at the Orange Studio, and yes it was absolutely orange! Betsy is a local Fashion photographer in Orlando who is very talented and very sweet. The workshop was spent asking Betsy questions and taking photos of local models ksghsk, Jackie Hoag and Emma Brayshaw from BMG Models. Fun times!
Over all I had the experience of a lifetime in just 4 days. I can’t wait for the next SNAP! Check out the Video I made and photos I managed to SNAP!
